On Friday, November 13th, OPP Police Constable Chauvin will be paying us a visit. You're not in trouble (as far as I know...), but to stay in his good books you are required to come up with 3 questions for him to answer. Please keep them relevant to law, policing in particular, and design them so that a one word answer will not suffice. First come, first served, and you may not duplicate any questions sent before you.
iNSTRUCTIONS: 1. Think up 3 questions relevant to law/policing (look ahead in the textbook for some ideas if you can't think of any. 2. Post them neatly in the comments section - check your spelling/grammar before submitting. 3. Remember to post only your first name and last initial. Post away!

Welcome to the Law Blog! Our first blog entry will be completed by Tuesday, Feb.17th. THIS IS A MANDATORY BLOG POST. Your topic is 'Looney Laws'. Be prepared to present ONE of your Looney Laws to the class on Tuesday!
Assignment: Research any 3 laws that are either unusual, or from an earlier period (not limited to Canada). Write the laws in your blog post, identify where it is from, explain why you think the law was created, and why you feel it no longer applies in today's society. Here's an example: Looney Law #1: "A woman's hair legally belongs to her husband." Michigan, USA Why created? I believe this law was written in time when the man was the unchallenged head of the household. All property was considered his, and women had few rights even in marriage. It seems her hair was also considered his property! Why it doesn't apply: This law would never fly today as women's rights are now considered equal to a man's. The Charter of Rights and Freedoms guarantees it! Looney Law #2: |
